A little bit about me and why I have decided to run for Congress
Hello, my name is Christopher Rippey, and I am seeking your signature on my petition to be on the ballot for the 8th Congressional District Special Election. Thank you for taking the time to find out a little about me and where I stand on a few issues. I am a husband, a father and a grandfather. My family and I attend the Peoria CCV campus. I have four very awesome and unique children and a beautiful granddaughter with one more on the way. I decided late in life to get my college degree in Secondary Education and I am currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University.
I don't own my own company, I am not a CEO of a big corporation, and I don't come from a wealthy family, nor am I a career politician. I am just your average working middle class American like many of you. I decided to run for Congress because I feel like many of you do, that our politicians have let us down more often than not. I feel that most career politicians put their needs and ambitions before the majority of those they represent. If elected I can guarantee that I will work tirelessly to do whats right for all of those in District 8 and put your needs and wants always before mine.
I decided to run for office because I see a broken government system. Instead of finding a common ground to build on, both sides seem happier to fight with each other than look out for your best interests. I believe that most of the problems can be solved with newer, more forward thinking members of Congress and the Senate. The 10, 20, 30 year career politicians need to step aside for those who truly want to make a positive change for our States and for America as a whole.

Social Programs
An issue I will be tackling is that of reforms for social programs. I am a very strong advocate for these programs but there needs to be a change to them. I would like to see that those whom receive assistance from the government like food stamps and WIC are the ones benefiting from them. I would put forth a bill that requires a monthly drug test before they receive their allotment. Also, since most food stamps and WIC programs have moved to a debit card system, I want to put the photo of the individual receiving assistance on the card and the retailers need to check their ID. Also we need to make it so that those cards cannot be used at any restaurant. They need to be used for groceries and groceries alone. Another requirement I would need is that if you are an able bodied person, you will need to have proof that you are looking for a job, or have a job. These programs are there as a safety net to help when things are tough and you are struggling. I know this from personal experience as I have utilized them in my life at various time when things got rough. They are not there for some people to take advantage of and be on for the rest of their lives due to laziness or lack of ambition to become a productive part of society.
